Ceramic Chip & Dip Workshop

Roll it, build it, decorate it — and create your own one-of-a-kind ceramic serving piece.

Our Ceramic Chip & Dip Workshop is a relaxed, hands-on 2-hour pottery experience where you'll create your very own chip and dip platter completely from scratch.

You'll learn the fundamentals of handbuilding with clay as you roll your slab, cut your platter to shape and build your own centre dipping bowl before bringing everything to life with all the textures, details and personality of our signature Shaka style.

No pottery experience needed — we'll guide you through every step.

What You'll Create

You'll begin with a fresh piece of clay and learn how to roll it into an even slab before deciding on the shape of your platter.

Keep it classic and round, go organic and wavy, or create something completely different — the design is yours.

Once your platter has been cut, we'll teach you how to roll and form a coil of clay to build the walls of your dipping bowl before securely attaching it to your platter.

Then comes the best part — decorating.

You'll have access to our collection of Shaka stamps, cutters, textures and pottery tools while learning techniques including:

  • Attaching clay details and embellishments

  • Stamping and imprinting designs

  • Creating texture in the clay

  • Slip trailing

  • Layering decorative elements

  • Refining and finishing your piece

We'll demonstrate the techniques and give you plenty of inspiration, but there are no set designs to follow.

Your finished chip and dip platter will be completely your own.

Choose Your Colour

Once you've finished creating your piece, you'll choose from one of our three Shaka glaze colours:

Pearl · Aqua · Pink

Then we'll take over.

All detailed glazing is included in your workshop price, including glazing the stamps, textures and decorative details you've added during your session.

Your piece will then go through our full kiln firing and glazing process before it's ready to come home with you.

A Little Note About Handmade Pottery

Every piece of handmade pottery behaves a little differently through the drying, glazing and firing process. Small variations in shape, texture and glaze are all part of the magic, and mean no two finished chip and dip platters will ever be exactly the same.
