Decorate a Mug Workshop

Create a mug that feels completely your own.

In this hands-on pottery workshop, you’ll start with a handmade Shaka mug body prepared for you in our studio, then spend the session transforming it using the same techniques, textures and tools we use on our own pottery.

Choose from our collection of cutters, stamps and textures — including ocean-inspired designs, florals, bees, western motifs, cactus shapes, coral textures and more — or create something entirely different.

No pottery or artistic experience is needed. We’ll guide you through every stage and help you turn your ideas into a finished piece you’ll actually want to use.Booking with a friend?

The workshop details

Duration: 2.5–3 hours
Price: $150 per person
Skill level: Beginner-friendly
Location: Falcon, Western Australia
Group size: Maximum 12 people
Firing turnaround: Approximately 3–4 weeks

What happens after the workshop?

Once you’ve finished decorating your mug, we take over.

Your piece will slowly dry before going through its first kiln firing. Our team then glazes your mug before it heads back into the kiln for its final firing.

We’ll keep you updated throughout the process, and as soon as your pottery is ready we’ll send you an email and SMS.

What should I bring?

Just yourself and your ideas.

We provide all clay, tools, materials and equipment. We recommend wearing comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting a little clay on.

Can I come if I’ve never done pottery before?

Absolutely.

Most of our workshop guests are beginners. We demonstrate each technique and spend the session helping you with your design, attachments, textures and colour choices.

You won’t be left trying to figure it out on your own.

Can I book with friends?

Definitely.

You can book multiple seats together through our workshop schedule. We keep our sessions small so everyone still receives plenty of guidance.

For larger private groups, birthdays, hens events or team workshops, get in touch with us about organising a private session.

Can children attend?

Our standard Decorate a Mug Workshop is designed for adults.

We run separate kids pottery workshops throughout the year.

Rescheduling & cancellations

Workshop tickets are non-refundable.

If you can no longer attend, please contact us at least 48 hours before your workshop and we can move your booking to another available session.

Late cancellations or no-shows may result in the workshop booking being forfeited.

Clay Beginnings,
Coastal Roots

What started as a lockdown hobby turned full-time dream. Founded by Brad and joined by his wife Harriet (aka the Glaze Queen), Shaka Pottery is a small family-run ceramics studio based in Falcon, WA. We believe in slowing down, getting messy, and creating something real. From handmade mugs to curated kits, everything we do is about sharing the joy of pottery.
