Decorate a Butter Dish Workshop
Create a butter dish that feels completely your own.
You’ll start with a handcrafted Shaka butter dish prepared for you in our studio, then transform it using the same cutters, textures and decorating techniques we use on our own pottery.
Choose from our sea animals, bee and floral, cowgirl and cactus collections, signature coral textures and more — or create something completely different.
No pottery or artistic experience is needed. We’ll guide you through every stage and help you turn your ideas into a finished piece you’ll actually want to use.
What you’ll do
During the workshop you’ll:

Attach and shape your butter dish handle

Roll and prepare clay for decoration

Choose from our cutters, stamps and texture tools

Cut and attach your decorative designs

Add texture, slip trailing and finishing details

Personalise your butter dish with your own style

Choose your glaze colours
Once your piece is complete, we’ll take care of the drying, glazing and kiln firing in our studio.
Your finished butter dish will usually be ready for collection in approximately 3–4 weeks.

Glazing options
A standard all-over glaze is included in your workshop.
If your design has lots of detail and you’d like individual sections glazed in different colours, detailed decorative glazing is available for an additional $35. We’ll show you examples and help you decide during the workshop.

This workshop is designed for adults and is not intended for children.
Tickets are non-refundable, but with at least 48 hours’ notice we can move your booking to another available workshop or provide credit, subject to our booking policy.
Private groups are also available. If you’d like to organise a different date or time, get in touch with us.
